About Me

Savannah Rose Behrmann is a multimedia journalist who loves to report, interview, write, research, and shoot and produce video. She is currently the Senate Correspondent at National Journal, covering the legislative happenings of the upper chamber.

Previously, she was a Congressional Reporter at USA TODAY where she covered both chambers of Congress for the paper. Before, she covered politics for the NOW team at USA TODAY, reporting on political breaking news.

Earlier, she was a News Associate for CNN DC, where she wrote for digital, worked with CNN’s Political Unit for the 2018 midterm elections, reported from the Paul Manafort trial, produced from the breaking news desk, and ventured around Capitol Hill.

Savannah is a graduate of George Mason University, where she studied Communication with an emphasis in Political Communication and Journalism. During her time at school, Savannah worked within her college’s newspaper and broadcasting station. Notably, Savannah was a Washington Scholars Program staff member for her four years of college, and a proud sister of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority where she held multiple leadership positions within her chapter, and received national recognition from headquarters.

She started her journalism career by working at Northern Virginia Magazine, USA TODAY, C-SPAN, and CNN. These internships gave her incredible opportunities, such as attending White House press briefings, roaming the halls of Capitol Hill, covering President Trump’s Inauguration, and her op-ed, “Send ‘Fearless Girl’ on tour” made the front page of USA TODAY. She has also written for Teen Vogue.

Hailing originally from Nephi, Utah, Savannah fell in love with the opportunities that the DC Metro area has to offer. She was first introduced to Washington, D.C. when she attended the Washington Journalism and Media Conference in 2013 as a National Youth Correspondent. The following summer, Savannah was selected to return as an intern, and she served as a Junior Faculty Advisor in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Savannah has returned every year since to speak to the students about journalism's role in a successful democracy.

Savannah takes a special interest in politics and international affairs. She loves working breaking news and being challenged by a deadline.

Beyond her love for journalism, she loves to travel and has explored 15 countries. Savannah was selected to represent George Mason University for the David Project, and was sent as an ambassador of the program to Israel and Palestine. In 2018, she had the opportunity to interview Vietnam War Veterans in Vietnam and create news packages for Tết.
